A bit of aviation humor

(based on Hergé’s wonderful art)

I know, it’s probably a Percival Prentice, not a Chipmunk. Got confused because Hergé usually took some liberty with aircrafts in his comics, but there’s also definitely a “Chippie” in the “Black Island“. Red/white with a bubble canopy.

Anyway, you get it. A proper Chipmunk should run a DH Gipsy engine. And the guy who writes this cannot currently fly his plane because of Gipsy cylinder issues. Go figure…

Testing the iPhone XR sensor.

Challenging light here but the new iPhone XR performs very well. It still managed to capture details in the shadows while not burning the bright sky.

See below for a before and after: the untouched picture and, once clicked, a version edited with Snapseed posted on Instagram (which might be slightly over-processed, I confess, but it shows the level of details preserved).

By the way, this is the beautiful AMPA Morane Saulnier MS317 (1937) based at Lausanne Airport, Switzerland.

Lausanne, 7000 feet above

I had my Biennial Flight Review* today, in a very windy, chilly, atmosphere. It all went well. We’re so privileged to be able to enjoy such a view only minutes after having left the city’s busy streets. Picture taken at approx. 7000ft above Lausanne, Switzerland with my iPhone 6 Plus. Post-processing via Snapseed.

(*: in fact, to be precise and verbose, I should say EASA revalidation license proficiency check (LPC) of my single-engine piston class rating)

Yet another aviation portfolio

I have recently published a new online portfolio, dedicated to aviation photography.

I am not a spotter, I don’t even own a decent tele-lens. So most of my aviation photography is about capturing lines and details, while these wonderful machines sit on the tarmac.

Moscow Russian Air Force Museum, Sion airshow, Courlaoux : everything is here.
